Miraikan - the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, Japan, representing Asia and Pacific region was honored to host the 2nd Science Centre World Summit 2017 (SCWS2017), 15 -17 November 2017. 828 participants from 98 countries from various fields gathered under the theme of “Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future”. They discussed initiatives towards a sustainable future, long-term strategies on global issues, and the new roles for science centres in society. The “Tokyo Protocol”, an action plan signed by world science centre networks to support UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, has been discussed with the aim to enhance public engagement and create a concrete action plan on how science centres can contribute to global issues and the sustainability of the human race.
The Summit concluded with the handover to Mexico for SCWS2020, to be held in MIDE, Museo Interactivo de Economía in Mexico City, Mexico
